Burl Cherry & Walnut Coffee Table with Glass Top

Elegant. Functional. Artistic. Modern.
These are the cornerstones of my woodworking design style (of my life-style, I guess, as well). This design I tinkered with in my head for weeks before putting into physical form.
I wanted a design that allowed incredibly rare woods to be enjoyed (without having to smother them with epoxy) where their natural artistry, curves, and unique grain patterns could be felt and appreciated.
So the outer frame is a single piece of walnut that is cut at an angle to cradle the book-matched burl cherry slabs that I designed into a yin/yang setting. The walnut also holds the 1/4" thick glass that serves as both the functional table top and also the viewing portal.
The legs are crotch walnut and designed to complement and enhance the walnut frame. There are leveling feet (which you can see in the closeup photo) that not only protect the wood, but also allow the owner to level the table on any surface.
While not proprietary, it is my original design concept. There is only one of these, but I have a passion for rare, unique, and exotic pieces.
