Burl Maple River Coffee Table

Ahhh, Ronin. My friend Ronin who lives in Ft. Worth challenged me with his desire for a coffee table that could achieve high art and function; that could blend in his home decor while also stand out on it’s own merit; that could embody both the masculine and feminine.

We did tests with translucency and color and mirrors. We wanted to be able to see and enjoy the inner live edge of the unique burls, but not see through the table. We wanted color, but something subtle to complement (not overpower) the dynamic wood grain of the maple.

A thin layer of sage green lines the bottom of the river and we filled the rest with clear epoxy. The presentation looks simple and clean, but the execution is intentional and complex.

Thanks for the challenge, Ronin. We did it.
